Bizarre - Indian brothers murder sister over pregnancy.

Police on friday said that An eight months pregnant teenager was allegedly strangled to death by her two brothers and her body thrown into the Ganges canal in the Uttar Pradesh city of Meerut in a suspected honour killing.


According to the Hastinapour police station office-in-charge P.K. Singh, the recovery of the 19 year old's body from the canal brough this incident to light.

The victim was allegedly having an affair with a man from the same village. When she fell sick her parents took to a doctor who confirmed that she was eight-months pregnant.


The victims brothers Sonu and Bhoore, who were angry about the news involved an accomplice and took her to Gang canal where they allegedly strangled her and dumped the body, Singh said.

The post mortem report confirmed that the girl was strangled. A which murder case has been registered against the three accused. The girl’s family has taken to thier heels and a manhunt has been put in place.

Recently, activists have said the law into honour killings in India need review after the death of Bhavna Yadav, a 21-year-old student. The third-year Delhi University student was murdered by her parents for marrying her friend, Abhishek Seth, against their wishes.

'There is no honour in these killings. These are horror killings says the National Commission for Women member Shamina Shafiq. 'A stringent law is the need of the hour. Besides a strong bill, it also needs enforcement and education. 'No laws punishing crimes in the name of honour exist in India.'
