World News - Chaos in Ferguson After Grand Jury does not indict in Micheal Brown's Case.

Thousands of people rallied in US cities including Los Angeles and New York to protest a grand jury's decision not to indict a white police officer who killed an unarmed black 18-year-old in Ferguson, Missouri.

Whistles pierced the air as some of the hundreds of protesters tried to keep the peace, shouting, "Don't run, don't run."

Police who formed a wall of clear riot shields outside the precinct were pelted with bottles and cans as the crowd moved up and down the street immediately after authorities said the grand jury had voted not to indict Wilson.

"Murderers, you're nothing but murderers," protesters in the crowd shouted. One woman, speaking through a megaphone said, "Stinking murderers."

More than 15 gunshots were heard as businesses all through the city were looted or set ablaze.Gunshots rang out and police lobbed tear gas at an angry crowd in suburban St. Louis after the grand jury decision was announced late on Monday.

No shots were fired by police during violent protests that erupted in Ferguson, Missouri, on Monday night, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said.

At a 2:30 a.m. ET press conference on Tuesday, Belmar reported "a lot of gunfire" in the streets overnight. Around 12 buildings were set ablaze as the protests "spun out of control," Belmar said. At least 29 arrests were made and an automatic handgun was seized.

"What I've seen tonight is probably much worse than the worst night we ever had in August and that's truly unfortunate," Belmar said. "Unless we bring 10,000 policemen in here, I don't think we can prevent folks who really are intent on destroying a community."

Missouri State Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson said "the community has to take some responsibility for what happened tonight in terms of tearing our community apart."

He added: "We talk about peaceful protest and that didn't happen tonight. Change is created through our voice and not through destruction of our community. Right now, this community is really fractured."
Johnson said that numerous small businesses had been destroyed overnight along with the "dreams" of their owners.
